I have found that cleaning fish gives me a great appreciation for life itself. I have been cleaning fish or watching my Dad and Uncles clean fish for as long as I can remember. There is a meditative experience about the process that I can not put my finger on but can sense deep down inside. I can tell you that the smell of fresh fish and the craftsmanship of handling the knife does keep you in moment. The camaraderie amongst friends and/or kin during the process is remarkable, it brings out the stories of the day as well as stories from the past. Most importantly there is a sense of accomplishment whether alone or in a group that you provided, that’s right YOU provided, from the lake to your table. Look at you, provider.
